My 21 Days

21 Days with the Sisterhood!

It takes 21 days to form new habits. Goodness knows I need to work on creating some new habits that I’ll stick with. I’m just as good as anyone else at declaring that I’m going to do something, then doing it for a little while, and then slowly petering out.

As we all know, this journey is about making changes that we’ll live with for the rest of our lives. There is no quick fix. We must make changes and stick with them. We must form new habits.

So here are the habits I want to make permanent parts of my lifestyle:

  1. Working out. I was never a fitness enthusiast, but after taking part in the Shred with the Sisterhood challenge, I saw the results you can get from working out regularly. I liked the results. I felt strong and fit and so good about myself. So why haven’t I continued to workout? Life has gotten in the way. Summer and vacations and non-schedules have tripped me up in a major way. Right now, I am committing to getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. It might be a workout DVD, it might be a walk or hike, all I know, is I’m going to do something every.single.day.
  2. Water. I’ve always been good at getting in my daily water. I usually get in over 100 ounces a day. Traveling has really thrown a wrench in that for me. It’s hard to drink that much water when you’re flying and driving everywhere, and sadly, that’s when you probably need it the most! So I’m committing to reforming my habit of drinking a ton of water each day.
  3. Fruits and vegetables. Five a day is what’s recommended. I can do it, and I will. Enough said!

I don’t want to overwhelm myself with new habits (even though these are things I’ve done before!), so I’m going to limit it to these 3 items this time around. I will do these three things for the next 21 days in order to form new habits, and then I won’t stop there. I will make sure that these 3 habits stick with me forever and ever, because afterall, it’s about making changes, not quick fixes.

water is an easy one for me, but i'm just like you take me away from my desk at work and my water intake gets all messed up!
  • Yeah, water is easy for me when I'm at home, but when I leave home, it's SO hard!!!

    Good Luck Christy!

I agree, it is hard to drink your water when travelling-it's not easy to have to stop every 1/2 hour, and it's annoying! I always feel better though when I do drink my daily allotment.
  • Good goals! Water is hard for me too. I have to pretty it up - lemon or cucumber usually helps.
As far as fruits and veggies go, I bet you could get a slug of them down in a smoothie...and fresh produce is so good right now. Or throw veggies on your grill. Somehow they taste better that way.
    Good luck!
  • Luckily, water and veg are no-brainers for me. I'm a vegetarian! And as for the water, well, that's something I tackled long ago. My secret: it's nearly impossible to buy flat water here. It's nearly always sparkling. There's something very refreshing about that. It gives you the "ahhhh" of a soda, but no calories, preservatives, caffeine, etc!

I'm definitely with you on building a habit of exercise. I go gung-ho for a few days, then abandon it when life gets in the way. That's not happening this time! Great habits, and good luck!

You can do it Christy!! Thanks for all your motivating encouragement and keeping it real!
  • Great goals! I'm actually on the go a lot myself, and I bought this tall 48 ounce bottle to tote with me. At first it was a pain because one more thing to lug with me and the baby, but I'm glad I do because then I don't spend money on something, and then I also still get that water in. I refill right away too.
  • I used to tell my husband I didn't believe the "hype" of vitamins, only to realize I did feel better after taking them...so I am back on track to start that again. Good luck....keep that water bottle full!
  • I decided not to overwhelm myself either and stuck with 3. You can do this!!! :o)
