Rethink Your Shrink Week 1

This week is my first official weigh-in for the challenge! Last week I was out of town, and checked in with the previous week’s weight of 140.4.

This weeks weigh-in is pretty much what I expected! After being out of town for a week, and pretty much eating what I wanted (with all the guilty feelings. ugh), my weight is up this week.

Today: 141.2

I am happy with that weight. I feel like it could have been, and should have been much higher! Since returning home on Sunday, I’ve buckled down. I’m happy to say I’ve been meeting all of my goals!!

A little refresher:

  1. GET ON WW ONLINE AND DO IT! No excuses. NONE.
  2. EXERCISE! Strength training, running, cardio.
  3. WATER! OMG, I have fallen off on my water intake, and that’s one thing I know helps me lose weight! WATER has got to be a priority!
  4. FRESH! I need to start consuming fresh, fresh, fresh food.

I downloaded the new iPhone app from Weight Watchers and I LOVE it. SO MUCH. It’s totally free, too! I ran on Monday, did the EA SPORTS Active More Workouts on Tuesday, and will do it again tonight. I’ve been drowning myself with water, and I feel SO much better for it. And I’ve been eating lots and lots of fruits and veggies!

Tomorrow I’m escaping central Texas, and our frigid weather, and heading to sunny LA! Why, you ask? As a EA SPORTS Active 6-Week Challenger, one of the perks is a challenge end retreat! FUN! So I, along with the other 11 challengers will converge in sunny LA for a little fun this weekend. Part of the fun includes a LIVE web chat, that I encourage you pop in on! We’ll be taking questions, talking about our experiences with More Workouts, and EA SPORTS Active’s own fitness expert will be there as well. And don’t forget super-rad Kathryn (@Active_Girl)!

The Live Chat starts at 4 p.m. PST on Saturday and here’s the link! Stop by and check it out! You don’t have to do anything other than watch, although I’d love to get some questions and support from y’all!

Have a great, shrinking week!

Gobble, gobble, punch!

WHOOOOOOOOOOO-WEEEEEEEE. What.a.week. Seriously. Thanksgiving is a tough, tough week. Especially when you are trying to shrink. I set out with big plans. BIG PLANS, y’all. I had my menu planned, and it was traditional. I cannot mess with old family recipes. There is no lightening them up. It was all going to be about self-control and being active.

On Thanksgiving morning, I got up, got dressed, and hit the road for a 5 mile run. I ran the entire thing, and it was amazing! I felt like my day and week were starting off great. I came home and cooked, we ate, I went for a walk, and I did my EA SPORTS Active workout. I was proud as pie.

The weekend was a blur of Christmas tree shopping, decorating, eating out, snacking, and leftovers. I didn’t have time to run, and Saturday and Sunday were my off days from EA SPORTS Active. When I stepped on the scales Sunday morning, I was devastated. I was up several pounds, and it was a huge slap in the face. I buckled down, started guzzling water and fired up More Workouts on my day off. I knew if I was going to undo the damage I’d have to be serious.

Flash forward to this morning. After a long and sleepless night (thanks to my son falling out of the bed, and my daughter removing her diaper and peeing all over her bed), I groggily stepped on the scale. Totally forgot to turn on the light, so I couldn’t see the number! Light on, scale read, and happy dance!

KA-POW (that’s me sucker punching the turkey)!!! I managed to LOSE weight over Thanksgiving week. I think this could be a historical moment for me. I should have prepared a speech.

Where would I be without the Sisterhood? Probably back in the 150s, out of shape, tired all the time, and unhappy. But now I’m just about to say BUH-BYE to the 140s forEVER.

Last week: 141.6
This week: 140.8
Change: -0.8 HOLLA!

Miles this week: 7
Total miles for the challenge: 31

Since the challenge started, I am down 1.2. My goal was to lose 5 pounds, so we’ll see if I can make it. Only 2 more weeks to go!

Be sure to check out my EA SPORTS Active for Life entries over here! Give me some love while you’re there, k?

Why do my knees hurt so bad?

September 14th, 2009 | Comments | Posted in Christy, EA Sports 30-Day Challenge |

Am I doing something wrong? I mean, today was supposed to be an upper body workout, but my knees are killing me. The side lunges and side-to-side jumps and inline skating are going to be the death of my knees.

Do you have any advice? Because seriously, I’ve never had a problem with either of my knees. Ever. They didn’t bother me when I did the 30-Day Shred, which was very intense and full of lunges and squats and those stupid plank jacks. What gives?

On another note, I was determined to workout today after missing not 2, not 3, but 4 days of working out. The shame. As soon as I got going, the phone rang. It was Lisa. I ignored her. Then it rang again. The machine got it and I could hear a friend leaving a message about a mother’s day out opening for Mia. Then it rang again. It was my mom. And then the dog started whining to go out. I ignored her and she puked on the floor. What gives?!!!

I think from now on, I’ll turn the ringer off and put my dog out before I work out.

Even with all the distractions, I still burned 175 calories. DAMN!!! I was proud and sweaty. Or sweaty and proud. Either way, I did it, and I intend on catching up on the days I missed. That is if my knees will cooperate.

21 Days Challenge
As far as my habits, go, I’m doing a pretty good job. My focus for this challenge was water, and I’m proud to say I’ve met my goal everyday. I also chose to focus on 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day, and aside from a few missed days while out of town, I’ve done quiet well and actually look forward to my daily 5.

The last habit I wanted to form was getting exercise every day. This one, my fine Sisters and Brothers, I have failed miserably on.  Sure, I’ve worked out sporadically, but not in a habit forming way, and that makes me mad. I truly set out on this challenge with the intent of exercising and making it a habit. I’m not going to give up, though. I know that we have the EA Sports Active 30-Day Challenge on the horizon, so I’m going to prepare myself for that, and workout as much as I can between now and then to prepare.

My weight, well, it hasn’t gone down. Nope, I haven’t shrunk. I’m not making any excuses, because I know exactly what happened. Over the last month I traveled 3 of the 4 weeks. I traveled to places like Chicago, Atlanta, Tennessee and Austin. And if I’m going to be really honest, I’ll just tell you I ate my way through those cities and states. Oh yes I did. I’m not going to say I ate things I shouldn’t have, because really, I don’t feel like anything is off limits. I can’t live like that. But when you partner day after day and trip after trip of eating out, and not making the healthiest of choices, it doesn’t matter how much walking or hiking or babywearing you do. Calories in do not equal calories out which equals a gain.

So here are my numbers:

Last official weigh-in at the end of the Shrinking Days of Summer challenge: 142.6

Today’s weigh-in after weeks of debauchery: 146

Do you know how long it took me to get to 142.6? MONTHS. Months of working through a plateau and struggling so hard. I was so proud. I know I will back to it, but OMG, nothing sucks more than getting there and and then losing it. Can I get an AMEN?

And here is my new commitment: I am going to start using Weight Watchers online again. Today. I used it and lost 45 pounds before my daughter was born. I know it works. I know how it works and why it works. I will do it. Help keep me honest okay? I’m going to blog here everyday about my points and tracking and how I’m doing. Come back here and harass me in the comments if you don’t see me post. Please. Every time you comment, I get an email which is just like a swift kick in the ass.

Smooches.
